Sunday Serenity: Bear

Today I honour the memory of my beautiful horse, Bear, who succumbed to torsion colic November 21, 2017. He was 16 years old.

Bear changed my life in many profound ways and was the perfect mirror to my heart. We shared almost 12 years of growth and adventure, so his sudden departure was a life quake that altered my emotional landscape.

I celebrate his influence on my life by doing my best to live the lessons he taught ~ to be in the moment; to let go and let be, and that candy canes at Christmas are a good thing.

And so, I am reminded that in the day-to-day commotion of life it is important to live, to love, to learn and to laugh with those nearest and dearest to us. Life is too short for anything else.

Something to Celebrate …

One thing I’ve come to realize over time is that I’m not particularly good at blowing my own horn. My background is in public relations, but it was always about promoting or celebrating someone else. One of the hardest things I’ve had to learn over the years is how to celebrate my own achievements. So, here goes …

We have a WINNIE!!

EQUUS Film Festival 2018 WINNIE Award for
Best Equestrian Photo Journal
*Unsung Heroines of the Horse Industry*

A year ago I took a chance on my first gallery exhibit in Toronto and 10 days ago, on my birthday weekend, I collected my first artistic award in New York City.

The video photo journal is linked in the menu. It’s short. If you have a moment, please check it out. It represents the beginning of a new chapter in my creative life … and is a gentle celebration of women who work behind the scenes to keep the equestrian world humming.

As a woman-of-a-certain-age finally able to pursue my passion for fine art photography, let me just say this … you’re never too old to dream. Never too old to learn how to celebrate your own achievements.

Age is, after all, just a number.

“Supper Time”

This work was adapted from a photography exhibit created earlier in the year for the Urban Gallery’s “Women at Work” show during the ScotiaBank CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto this past May.

The EQUUS Film Festival takes place in New York City and I’m thrilled to be able to attend.

Links to both the trailer and full video on YouTube are available in the menu of this blog.

I am grateful to all who have made this possible, and to you, my small legion of followers on this blog, for helping me to find my courage as a photographer.

As always, thank you for visiting …
