It has been said that life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. That’s certainly true in my case. As a teenager I had a certain disconnected vision of my plans … and then life happened.
Most of my life has been spent surviving the slings and arrows of those who knew no better than to involve me in their dramas at a time when I felt powerless to do anything about it. It’s only been in the past few years I’ve been able to start freeing myself from this emotional prison and my life has become my own. Finally, I’m beginning to thrive. It feels fantastic!
In this blog, through the written word and photography, I share my enthusiasm for life, my ideas and my creativity. I may touch on any number of topics … including my love for travel, horses, nature, music, family history … who knows where it will go.
We just never know where life will take us.
Thank you for visiting, and sharing, my journey …
Be well,
Dorothy 🙂

Hello from New York.
Welcome! … State or city?
I was born in New York City. I live on Long Island, New York now. I have never left the state since I was born 🙂
Wow! That’s quite an accomplishment. … I haven’t yet been to New York City. It’s on my bucket list …
Greetings from Australia Dorothy,
I loved reading about your desire to express yourself through written word and photography; I feel the same way. By the way, Dorothy means “gift of God” and is of Greek origin. I’m a firm believer that we can only ever be happy when we have the courage to live out our gifts that God has blessed us with. All the best and take great care.
God bless you
Thank you for your lovely comment. … For the longest time I could never understand why I’d never been able to do anything with all the creative talents and gifts I’d been given. It wasn’t until I sought professional help that I realized my unresolved childhood issues were in my way. Exploring those and releasing them (and the negative people who went with them) has started to open the channels, leaving me feeling more confident and like I can trust what I’m creating. Shifting my courage to support the positive rather than defend against the negative has been a long process, and continues. Words like yours help me to see that I have chosen a good path … Thanks again and be well, Dorothy 🙂
it is a long process isn’t it? I have been doing this as well. Keep up the good work, you’re doing great!
Nice picture of you here 🙂
Thanks … I was enjoying a sunset on the Isle of Arran. Such wonderful light … 🙂
Hi Dorothy, I really like your blog, the beautiful pictures and your inspirational posts, so I decided to nominate you for the Liebster award! Read my article to know what to do next: http://littlehiddenplace.wordpress.com/2013/03/17/the-liebster-award/
Cheers, Esmé
Thank you, Esme. So happy you’ve enjoyed visiting my blog and am humbled by this nomination. I will certainly check it out. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
You are very welcome! Looking forward to reading you!
🙂
Your presentation makes me want to see and read more. Life is not easy. You seem to have balanced it now – or at least you’re on your way. I didn’t really start “living” until I was about 30 and had some perspective and experience. It’s a bit sad, but I think that applies to many of us. Luckily we somehow find ourselves a bit down the road and hopefully there is much left to find out and experience! I will gladly stroll around your beautiful blog!
I had no idea how broken I was until a week in Sarajevo a few years ago sent me into therapy. I’d been taking various steps through the previous years to build my self-awareness and heal, but the battle scars of Sarajevo were the mirror I needed to see how badly wounded I had been by early childhood trauma. I’ve been to hell and back several times as I crawl out of this shadow. My physical health has been effected by the amount of energy required to heal my emotional and mental health. I live a quiet life focusing my precious energies on healing and revealing my true voice. This particular blog, like me, is a work in progress, and I have a pretty good feeling, thanks to feedback from lovely people like you, that we’re doing just fine. … Thank you for your encouraging words and for spending some of your precious time with me at Eyes to Heart. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
I really enjoy your blog! I look forward to seeing a lot more of your fine work in the future – I’m your new follower. 🙂
Greetings from the Far North
Dina
Thank you, Dina! Welcome aboard! I’m thrilled that you enjoy my work. … I’m going to stop by your blog too and see what you’re about. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
Thank you for visiting my blog and liking a post. I look forward to seeing your work. You have lovely images posted here and you have a gift for the written word. I hope you’ll stop by my blog again soon! Blessings, Robyn
Thank you, Robyn. 🙂
Ah…we also have an affinity for family history in common!-Gail
If you would know yourself, know your family history. We are coloured by people and events we don’t even understand until we unearth the roots of those who came before. It’s rather liberating, isn’t it? 🙂
“…freeing myself from this emotional poison…”: Good for you. Now to whole, intentional living! I am a writer/ retired counselor and look forward to reading your lovely posts.
Thanks so much. So good of you to stop by and leave a comment. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
I hope you don’t mind, Dorothy, but I’ve mentioned your blog with a link to it on my blog today. Your photos and “journey” inspire me and I thought others might appreciate your blog as much as I do.

That’s very sweet of you. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your corner of the blogosphere. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
Blog looks lovely. I was having a nosy through. Do you have other blogs that you have put in to this blog, if so a clever idea. I clicked the pages and they seemed to go to different blogs to follow so I presume all yours? i didn’t know you could do that. I have 3 blogs, wow its hard work, I take my hat off to you x
Yes, all the blogs are mine. You can create a menu and add the blogs that way. Very neat. Thanks for visiting …
Very beautiful picture, I have to admit that one of things I want to leanr and do in the near future is learn how to ride a horse and just be around them. I love your description of what are you doing now, and I understand how inprisoning emotional vampires are… So, all best to you on your journey 🙂
Thank you. I do hope you have a chance to learn about and be with horses. My own recommendation, if I may, is to find a knowledgeable, sympathetic horse person who can teach you well. Worth exploring is http://www.chrisirwin.com and http://www.eponaquest.com. Let me know when your journey with the horse begins. I’d love to hear about it. … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
Thank you… I live in Croatia, where are you from?
I will definitely let you know since I will be blogging about it when it happens. 🙂
I am in Canada. (I have visited beautiful Dubrovnik.)
I have seen you have visited Bled also, in Slovenia. 🙂
We have a joke in Croatia, that more tourist get to see our country than we do… But I suppose it is the same in every country. I have been to Dubrovnik once, I live in the capital. 🙂
It is true. There is much of Canada I have not yet seen. … I visited Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia-Herzogovina in 2009. That was a moving experience.
My family from dad’s side is from BiH and we visit regulary. 🙂 And some is in Slovenia. And some in Serbia. And in Germany. But, I’m getting sidetracked. 🙂
You are fortunate to have the opportunity to see so many interesting places. 😉
I have never been to Germany. Traveling is in my plans, but more of, I will travel, not – I’m just about to buy a ticket. There is much time and healing needed first. Health to get better. To earn money. 🙂
Every thing in its time. The most important thing is to heal. Be well …
Thank you ❤
Dorothy,
You definitely have an eye for photography and a way with words. I am looking forward to making your literary acquaintance!

You’re most welcome. I select my “Shout Outs” carefully and I really liked the colour and composition of your image for this challenge. I look forward to perusing your blog soon. Isn’t it amazing how the beauty in the world can connect people from far flung places in such a profound way? If only humanity focused on that. 😉 … Be well, Dorothy 🙂
You are absolutely right, Dorothy 🙂
This is a wonderful forum to share and spread positive energy across the globe with our words and images.
