Throwback Thursday: Glendalough

When I’m feeling distraught or unsettled about life beyond my control I turn my heart to that which brings me joy. We used to travel a lot and one of my fondest memories belongs to a couple of hours spent wandering through the ruins of an ancient monastary at beautiful Glendalough in Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

Recently, and to my great delight, I’ve learned it’s possible some of my Irish ancestors who emigrated to North America in the 1800s originated in this area.

Beyond my appreciation for its obvious beauty perhaps this explains my feelings of connection.

During these intense and challenging times I return to this memory to bring peace to my heart and to help me be a source of peace for others.

It’s what the world needs now … that and love, sweet love.

 Titanic

The memorial at Cobh Harbour, Ireland, the final port of call before Titanic set sail for New York City, is a blink-and-you-miss-it and almost nondescript moment.
Still, the titanic letters underscore a titanic miscalculation on a titanic voyage, and a titanic loss.

Three years ago this spring we spent three lovely weeks visiting breathtaking Southern Ireland.

I long to return but in the meantime must satisfy myself with memories (and the captivating photography of two Irish bloggers I follow.)

We spent two nights at the idyllic and beautiful Waterford Castle which is situated on its own island in the middle of the River Suir.

The Path

Both days I walked along the bank of the river to get my early morning exercise and brought my camera along to capture the experience.

These images are of the King’s Channel running along the south bank of the island.
