H2O Abstract

There’s lots of change going on around here ~ the reason my posts are so sporadic ~ thus my mind drifts to the abstract, just as I move from one life abstract to another.

This is a lovely memory relived by the miracle of digital photography. Taken during a walk along the River Arno in Firenze on a beautiful late spring evening in 2014, ripples of coloured light dancing upon its reflective waters.

Reminds me that no matter how dark the recesses of our lives we can, like water, reflect the light and enjoy the unexpected and colourful abstract beauty it reveals.

We need only give it a chance.

Firenze Half Light

Weekly Photo Challenge: Half Light

My corner of the globe is crawling out from under the ravages of a devastating ice storm that hit in the past 36 hours. Many beautiful trees have been lost on our farm and in the surrounding area; the power is out and, due to fallen trees and power lines which have made the local roads impassable, I feel powerless to help my friends there who are struggling to water the horses and clean up debris. On the upside, people and horses are safe, and there’s no structural damage to any of our farm buildings.

So, while I process this rattle to my psyche I present for this challenge a favourite memory of half light from our trip to Firenze two years ago. And as much as I would love to wax poetic, I’m drawing a blank. Any inspiring thoughts would be much appreciated.

Tomorrow we head to the valley to assist with the long clean up.

Today we head back to Firenze for my Monochrome Madness 2-14 contribution. Back to the Piazza Della Signoria and Giambologna’s equestrian statue (1595) of Grand Duke Cosimo I ~ the man who, according to my DK Eyewitness Travel guide “subjugated all Tuscany under his military rule.”

Have you ever noticed how great leaders are also depicted as great horsemen?

Because I’m such a horse person my eye is drawn to the magnificent equestrian statues and sculptures of the great cities I visit in Europe. Also, as an artist myself, I know that accurately capturing the majesty, power and vulnerability of the horse is no mean feat. So, when I see equestrian artwork that resonates these characteristics I appreciate the artistry and vision required to effectively produce such a masterpiece.

Amazing!
