One late afternoon a couple of weeks ago I watched as an impressive cold front passed by the farm. This spectacular cloud (which my image barely does justice) was at the tail end.

Century Barn

Since taking on the stewardship of a horse farm two months ago, it’s been fun to explore it’s many beautiful spaces, both man-made and natural.

One of my favourite spots is the century bank barn. It’s a cathedral built to farm life. A shelter for the animals (in our case, horses). A storage for feed and machinery. A place to step into another time as its century beams and boards and vaulted roof draw us in to musing and meditation.

All my life I have dreamt of having a century barn.

I’m still pinching myself.

Filters

Rose ~*~

These roses are not black and white.

I created a filter to be able see them differently.

Now they are more than roses. They are …

… veined petals kissed by light

… shadowed layers revealing hidden depths

… swirls of precious energy bound into beautiful blooms of life.

We view life through the filter we create based on our experiences ~ both good and bad.

Just because the filter is there does not mean it can’t be changed.

Such limitations we put on ourselves when we refuse to see life in a broader spectrum.

Opening our eyes to new possibilities opens our heart to new understanding.

Changing the filter once in a while allows room for us to be amazed.

Sass
(Ch. Ennismoor Element of Time)
April 17, 2002 – August 14, 2015

~*~

Sass, our four-legged shadow for 13 years, will be remembered as a loyal companion, cookie hound, guard dog and fine mother to 26 puppies (three litters), including several champions and at least one therapy dog.

Sass was frequently, and lovingly, underfoot in the kitchen, loved to give dirty towels a pre-wash and was fond of peanut butter on toast.

She relished long walks in the forest or through the fields; herding back to the fold (whether we were in the forest, in the house, or in the back garden) all who unwittingly strayed, and roughhousing with her beautiful daughter, Abbey.

What a joy it was to watch the fur fly!!!

Summer Susans

Not strictly monochrome, I know, but it’s what I felt moved to submit this week.

Normally this would be an image of brilliant hues of yellow and green and brown. It was fun to see what would happen if I toned it down. Looks like the Brown-Eyed Susans “pop” in the image. What do you think?

“K” is for “Kitten”

The theme for Monochrome Madness this week is the letter “K.”

 JJ rests his chin on his brother Indy’s side as they both have an afternoon snooze. They were about nine months old at the time and the sweetest, most rambunctious pair of kitty cats.

They still are.
