After 10 days of incredible heat and humidity in Southern Ontario, finally some relief.
First the storms …
… and then a glimpse of hope.

An incoming, unsettled weather system projects the glow of early morning sunlight while promising the rainbow’s end.

The meaning of fun is open to interpretation, of course.
While I’m sure tourists aboard the Maid of the Mist have a whale of a time sailing into the mouth of the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara, Ontario, my fun is experienced observing from a safe distance while attempting to capture a memorable moment.

Hawaii is beautiful enough, but when you top it off with rainbow sightings several times a day, well, that’s just the cherry on top.

We have had the most spectacular autumn. The fall colours have been almost iridescent under the canopy of blue sky and brilliant sunshine that has been, for the most part, our weather experience.
The past couple of days have marked a sharp turn in our meteorological fortunes and some areas of Ontario have been under snowfall warnings. Yesterday a dramatic cloud front passed by our farm which, between the fall colours, filtered sun, dark clouds, distant precipitation and partial double rainbow produced the most extraordinary light.
Is there anything more extraordinary than the moods of Mother Nature?

I’m feeling devastated by what’s unfolding in Southern Alberta right now.
Though I live about 2,000 kms away in Southern Ontario, a part of my heart resides in the province of mountains, prairies and big skies. My ancestors settled there. My brother lives in Calgary. It is my second home.
Sadly, those big skies have unleashed more than 150mm of rain in the last 24 hours (with more to come), causing severe flooding and washing out major highways, destroying homes, upending lives. A state of emergency has been declared.
Feeling powerless to do anything else I offer my heartfelt prayers for a swift recovery.
Be well,
Dorothy

We recently spent an afternoon in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and witnessed the end of the rainbow as it arced into the base of the Falls.
This is what the rainbow’s end looks like when I play around with the contrast. I simply love what it does to intensify and warm the spectrum of colour.
As for the elusive pot of gold … imagination is a wonderful thing.
